Cardamom Ancient people recognized Elettaria cardomomum as  “queen of spices”  due to its pleasant aroma and taste. It was well known from the Egyptians, they used cardamom in perfumes and chewed it to whiten their teeth. Romans used this against stomach discomfort. The oil is extracted by steam distillation of cardamom seeds.
